One of Jack McCarthy's most repeated quotes is:
"you have to write one thing that pretty much everybody agrees is a poem. That qualifies you for your poetic license. After that, if you say it's Poetry, it's Poetry."
Jack stunned us with poems that are surprising and unlike anyone else's; presented with the genuine love he feels for this community. We followed that up with an open slam, where 4 slammers, 3 judges, and 5 faithful audience members watched Connecticut's Christina Beam take the slam.
Next Tuesday, we'll be presenting the Dead Poet Slam. A live-poets only open mic will be followed by an open slam. Special appearances may be made by poets such as Alan Ginsberg, William Shakespeare, Anne Sexton, and more. You won't know unless you're there! Wear your best dead poet costume and get ready to kick some undead ass. The top scoring poets will go on to compete in the final round in the library gallery at 9:00 on Hampshire Halloween. There will be prizes! We'll also need rowdy audience members and poorly-qualified judges. Don't miss it!
